Description
The company Ça marche directed by Nico Jongen presents, with non-professional performers of Barcelona’s deaf community, a show in Catalan sign language (LSC) and oral Spanish that questions the dynamics of language and its relationship with the body.
Pepita Cedillo is Deaf: she tells stories and answers questions in Catalan sign language (LSC). On stage, he shares the space with Javi, an LSC interpreter, with whom he constantly dialogues. They display together diverse ways of perceiving and expressing the world, placing sign language and spoken word on the same stage level. The relationship between them does not respond to the traditional role of interpretation, but it builds its own communicative net that makes the story reach the audience from multiple places.
Inspired by the legacy of storytelling and the communities' need to tell stories, Treballs forçats proposes a sensory journey in which sign-filling is a fundamental part of stage writing. Through gesture, vibration and silence, the show is an intelligent and sensitive exploration of the mechanisms involved in communication, the difficulties they face and the tenacious need to reach out to others to build our collective identity.
Show included in Ànima Lliure project, in partnership with the Fundació Banc Sabadell.
