The director Alícia Gorina is once again revisiting tragedy and presenting three classic versions of Electra: three different authors and a brief history of Western theatre for the new IT Teatre Lliure project.

"The episode of the murder of Clitemnestra by her fills, Orestes i Electra, is the only one in classical mythology gathered together by the three tragic Greeks: Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides. Aeschylus, in the work The Coephoras of the Orestea trilogy, and Sophocles and Euripides, in his works Electra. The fact that the same episode is told by all three authors allows us to see how Greek tragedy -and thus Western theatre- is built in its origins from one author to another, and how society changes in speech and thought. In this proposal, eight interpreters confront us with three brief versions of each of the three tragedies in an intimate and contemporary key. Three independent pieces that also correspond to three different styles of staging. In Aeschylus, the fanatic chorus are atavistic beings who perform a collective ritual asking for revenge. In Sophocles, the exemplary characters become statues, archaeological fragments left in a warehouse. In Euripides, humans become real, they go around the world with or without principles, laden with miseries and contradictions. We invite you to discover which of the three resonates with you most, because surely one will do it more than another. What does that tell us about ourselves?"
Alícia Gorina

With IT Teatre Lliure, the play created with graduates of the Institut del Teatre will be produced by the Llliure and shown in the Espai Lliure, which will become its reference venue. More shows are scheduled at the Lliure than in the previous IT Teatre project, and a circuit to share it around Catalonia is being planned for the 24/25 season accompanied by the pilot programme of the Reverberacions IT Teatre Lliure artistic-community mediation designed by Marta Galán Sala.

A project promoted by the Teatre Lliure, the Institut del Teatre and the Barcelona Provincial Council.
